A cook’s mistake made me a better wedding videographer.

A cook’s mistake made me a better wedding videographer.

As a wedding videographer, you learn more from mistakes than from perfect weddings. In this article, I share real wedding videographer tips based on a mistake that completely changed the way I approach wedding videography.

Marc was a young, passionate chef with a restaurant in a small coastal
town.
He had everything to make it big.
His own garden with the freshest vegetables.
Fishermen delivering just-caught seafood every morning.
Local farmers bringing him the highest quality meat.
Top-tier ingredients.

But there was a problem.

Marc still didn’t know how to cook properly.
It’s not that he was bad…
But he was missing the most important thing:
the ability to turn those incredible ingredients into something that made
people cry with happiness.
He obsessed over getting the best products, but then…

The fish was dry.
The vegetables were bland.
The sauces were forgettable.
Customers walked in excited… and walked out still hungry.

Because no matter how amazing your ingredients are,
if you don’t know what to do with them,
they’re useless.

One day, a seasoned chef came in for dinner.
After taking one bite, he put down his fork and said:

— “You have what most people don’t. The hard part. The top-quality
ingredients. But the problem isn’t what you buy— it’s what you do with it.”

Marc stared at him, processing…
And that’s when it clicked.

He started learning techniques, perfecting temperatures, mastering timing.
And when he finally learned how to cook properly, everything changed.
Because when you master the craft, great ingredients take everything to
another level.

And my friend, this is exactly how it works with wedding videos.

You can film in the most stunning venue.
Have the perfect golden-hour light.
Capture the most emotional moments.
But if the editing is flat, clunky, lifeless… the magic disappears.
A great video isn’t just about having great footage.

It’s about knowing what to do with it.
