It’s not something you ask before the wedding

If you’re planning your wedding, these wedding videographer tips might not be something you’ve thought about — but they’re important.

This week, I was at a wedding.
A castle near Igualada.

The couple? Very young.
He’s Catalan. She’s American.
Guests from all over the world.

And the bride’s grandparents? All the way from South Africa.

They told me it was crucial to have the speeches fully recorded.
— “No problem,” I said.
— “I always record the full speeches in high-quality audio.”

Then, the moment arrived.

The speeches about to start.

I go to connect my audio recorder to the sound system and…

Nothing.

Absolute silence.

I look at the screen.
It won’t turn on.
Internal panic alarm: activated.

I glance at the DJ.
The DJ looks at me like, “I didn’t touch anything, bro.”

Cold sweat.

I swap the batteries.
Still dead.

And the speeches?
Seconds away from starting.

PLAN B.

I pull out my backup recorder.
Turn it on.
It works.
I breathe.
Crisis averted.

And this is the kind of thing most couples never even think to ask:

“Do you have backup equipment?”

Because, really, what could go wrong?
Well… everything.
Modern cameras are smaller, lighter, more powerful…
But sometimes, they just die.
No warning. Just— poof.

That’s why I bring backups for everything.
Cameras, recorders, mics, memory cards, batteries…
Because when something fails (and trust me, at some point, something will
fail),

I’d rather have a Plan B…

than sweat like a guilty witness in court.
Ever since I started doing this, I go through life—and weddings—a lot more
relaxed.
